Kolkata, Nov 3 (UNI) Terming yesterday's violence in Singur as ''unfortunate and condemnable'', acting president of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee Pradip Bhattacharjee today said his party was always opposed to any form of violence.

''What is the use of forming Nano committee (NBC) since the Tata Group has already pulled out their small car project from Singur.

Yesterday's violence was perpetrated by the NBC and the Congress does not support it,'' Mr Bhattacharjee told newspersons here.

''We have already demanded that the unwilling farmers' land be returned and the future of Singur should be decided by the local people themselves,'' he said.

''The ruling parties should inform the Opposition parties about the government's latest stand on Singur land after the pull-out of Nano from the state,'' he said.

To a query, Mr Bhattacharjee replied, ''The PCC will welcome any alliance between the Congress and Trinamool Congress for the coming Howrah Municipal election.'' UNI AKM DPM PK HT2007
