Srinagar, Nov 3: As many as three thousand foreign skiers have so far confirmed their participation in different skiing courses in the Kashmir valley, where authorities are going all out for campaigning to attract national and international tourists during this winter.
''We expect an all time high tourist arrival during this winter, keeping in view the number of such guests last year,'' Director Tourism Farooq Ahmad Shah told UNI.
He said so far 3000 skiers from various countries, including Australia, Newzealand and Canada have confirmed their arrival in the month of January next year, when the Gulmarg slopes would be completely under snow.
Mr Shah said the skiers have booked their air tickets and confirmed hotel reservations in the valley.
Besides normal skiing, they are expected to take part in the heli skiing, a sport in which a skier is taken to a hill top by a helicopter from where he comes down on skiing.
Mr Shah said they have confirmed their reservation in the hotels at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg.
He said for heli skiing, Sonmarg was the idle place for such a sport where so far hundreds of skiers have participated since it was introduced in late eighties.
Mr Shah said the department was receiving calls from different parts of the world from people who intend to visit Kashmir this winter.
Besides domestic tourists are also confirming their bookings for the winter months, he said.
The tourism head in the valley said the department was launching a campaign within the country and abroad to attract tourists this winter from the last week of December.
He said the slopes in Gulmarg and other places would be busy with skiers during the months of January, February and March next year.
