New Delhi, Nov 2 (UNI) Seven women, associated with the Army, were today presented the prestigious AWWA Awards of Excellence by the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA).
Col (Mrs) Sagarika Patyal was presented the award for improvement in quality of life of soldiers and their families in 330 Infantry Brigade and Mrs Sudeshna Mukherjee for welfare activities created in 3 Corps Zone.
While Mrs Archana Gurung was given the award for imparting vocational training to the families of 58 GTC, Dr (Mrs) Sheila Shrikhande, currently Principal, Asha School, Lucknow, was rewarded for working for differently-abled children.
Three other women -- Mrs Mangi Devi, Mrs Nikita Shinde and Mrs Shilpa Damle -- respectively were given the award for working for various AWWA activities in the 10 Infantry Division, for improvement in quality of life of families and for various welfare activities for families of 39 Aslt Engineer Regiment.
Mrs Kirti Kapoor, President AWWA, pinned the badges of excellence on these women and gave a certificate at a ceremony held at the NCC Auditorium.
Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Meira Kumar, and Mrs Elizabeth Antony, wife of Defence Minister A K Antony attended the function.
