Sayantan Das and Diptayan Ghosh felicitated in Kolkata

Kolkata, Nov 2 (UNI) Sayantan Das, who struck gold under-12 at the World Youth Chess Championship at Vung Tau, Vietnam, recently, was given a hero's welcome on his arrival today.

Indian youngsters bagged four gold, two silver, and two bronze medals at end of the championship ended on October 30 in Vietnam.

Eleven-year old Sayantan Das, a student of Goodricke chess acadeny, won gold after achieving 9.5 points out of 11 points.

He is also the first player from Bengal to win a gold at any world chess championship.

Another student of Goodricke Academy, Diptayan Ghosh also performed well finishing fourth in the U-10 Boy's section.

The other players to win gold medals in Vietnam were Vidit Santosh Gujrathi in the U-14 Boy's section, Padmini Rout in the U-14 Girl's section and B.Adhiban in the U-16 Boy's section.

The Silver Medalists were S.P.Sethuraman in U-16 Boy's and R Preethi in U-18 Girl's Pratyusha Bodda and Debashis Das won Bronze in the U-12 Girls and U-16 Boy's section respectively.

The officials of the Alekhine Chess Club and Goodricke National Chess Academy today received them.

They came straight to Gorky Sadan where Goodricke National Chess Academy arranged the felicitation programme for them.

Director of Gorky Sadan Alexander V Marzika greeted the winners.
