Former SC judge cautions PM on classical language status
Kochi, Nov 2 (UNI) Against the backdrop of Centre granting classical language status to Telugu and Kannada, Former Supreme Court Judge V R Krishna Iyer today opined that these kind of classifications would 'breed linguistic belligerency'.
In a one-line letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a copy of which was made available to the press here, Justice Iyer said, '' In the name of classical languages please don't breed linguitsic belligerence ''.
The Centre recently accorded classical language status to Telugu and Kannada, bringing them on a par with other two classical languages, Sanskrit and Tamil.
