Bhubaneswar,Nov 2 (UNI) The BJP today demanded the enactment of a central law to check illegal conversion.
BJP president Rajnath Singh, who arrived here to inaugurate the extended state party council meeting, told newspersons here that the central law would help ascertain forceful conversion.
''Mass conversion is not a right thing and those who are indulging in it have a wrong motive,'' Mr Singh said.
He said everybody had the right to choose his religion but the freedom should not be misused.
The BJP leader demanded stict implementation of the Orissa Freedom of Religion Act to stop illegal conversion and, if needed, enactment of a central law for the purpose.
Mr Singh described the killing of Swami Laxamananda Saraswati and four of his disciples as ''very unfortunate''.
He said the judicial inquiry ordered by the state government into the murder would expose the people behind the crime.
