Singur, Nov 02 (UNI) Singur today turned into a virtual battlefield as sporadic clashes erupted between Trinamool Congress and ruling CPM activists, injuring Leader of the Opposition Partha Chatterjee and nine others.

Mr Chatterjee escaped with minor injuries. However, his car was completely damaged in the attack.

The 'Nano Bachao Committee' had raised a blockade near Ratanpur crossing on National Highway two to prevent entry of Ms Banerjee to Singur since this morning.

In retaliation, Trinamool workers torched the office of the Syndicate of construction material suppliers for the small car project following which clashes erupted at Ratanpur, Kolepara, Ghanshyampur, Bora and other areas near NH two. Police lobbed teargas shells to disperse the mob.

CPM cadres also raised a blockade at Maitypara of Dankuni, about 25 km from Singur, and stopped Ms Banerjee's car.

Traffic movement on both the flanks of Durgapur Expressway remained disrupted since this morning as the protestors raised black flags and brandished placards saying 'Go Back Mamata'.

Meanwhile, addressing a rally at Khaserchowk Beltala on National Highway two, Ms Banerjee alleged that CPM cadres and activists of 'Nano Bachao Committee', along with the police, had conspired to disrupt her public rally and attacked her party's supporters.

''The CPM goons attacked and injured more than a thousand of my party supporters and torched their houses. The police and administration remained a silent spectator and did nothing to stop the ruling party's cadres.
