Woman commits suicide, another attempts in Kashmir
Srinagar, Nov 1 (UNI) A 40-year-old woman committed suicide while another made a similar attempt overnight in the Kashmir valley, where the trend of taking the extreme step has not come down though Muslim ulemas have issued a fatwa against it.
Official sources said today one Taja Bibi consumed some poisonous substance in her Zahgli house in the frontier district of Kupwara.
She was immediately rushed to local hospital where she was declared brought dead.
They said another 35-year-old Safeena also consumed poison in her Hajibal, Tangmarg house.
She was admitted to Sub District Hospital from where she was referred to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura in a critical condition.
It was not immediately clear why they took this extreme step.
At an average two persons, mostly women, are committing or attempting to commit suicide in the Kashmir valley daily despite a fatwa issued by the ulmas declaring it an un-Islamic act.
