Pondy gets superspeciality hospital
Puducherry, Nov 1 (UNI) The Union Territory will have a superspeciality medical facility with the inauguration of the Pondicherry Medical Mission (PMM) by Chief Minister V Vaithilingam in the presence of Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanasamy here tomorrow.
Addressing the press here today, PMM Managing Director K Narayanan said the idea took shape from the need to provide cost-appropriate' multi-functional, comprehensive care to patients suffering from various kidney ailments.
The 100-bed hospital would cater to those suffering from lifestyle diseases and related-ailments including diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease.
It would have multi-faceted support functions including Imaging and Diagnostic Service, Preventive Health Services, Laparoscopic Centre and Critical Care Unit.
Dr Narayanan said the hospital had two operation theatres that would soon be certified for stringent quality process.
One of the theatres would be used for kidney transplants. A state-of-the-art floor would cater to those suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease. It would be equipped with haemodialysis unit and ambulatory peritoneal dialysis facilities among others.
Presently at the Kidney Centre, run by him, ten patients were getting free dialysis and another 30 at 50 per cent discount, he said.
