Police resort to lathicharge as protesters block road
Puducherry, Nov 1 (UNI) Police resorted to lathicharge at three places here today to disperse volunteers of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), who put up road blockades to condemn the arrest of state VCK convenor Pavanan.
The VCK volunteers also joined a fast, organised by the Tamil associations at Murungambakkam here and Pavanan was arrested when the people on fast abused the police.
Protesting the arrest, the VCK volunteers put up road blockades at Anna Statue junction, Indira Gandhi statue junction and Marappalam.
As the VCK volunteers did not heed to the request of the police to call off the agitation, the latter resorted to lathi charge, forcing the volunteers to flee.
