Mahindra defeats Vasco by 2-0

Margao, Nov 1 (UNI) Goals, one each by Edeh Chidi and Sushil Kumar, enabled Mahindra United to defeat Vasco Sports Club by 2-0 to register their second victory in the ONGC I League Championship Football match being played here today.

Edeh Chidi's goal came in the 40th minute from a penalty and Sushil Kumar increased their lead in the 61st minute by another one.

With today's win Mahindra increased their points tally to 6, from two wins and four defeats. While Vasco remained with same one points from equal number of outings.

In an evenly balance first half, the visitors had chance to score in the 17th minute when Edeh Chidi from the top of the box unleashed a powerpacked shot which missed the mark narrolwy.

In the counter attack, Vasco's Uzbek forward Ravashan intiated a good move and pass to Minino Fernandes whose volley missed the mark by inches.

Mahindra surged ahead in the 40th minute off a penalty goal by Edeh Chidi. Refree, A Anjuman awarded a penalty in favour of Mahindra when Vasco Defender Fulganso Cardoz brought down the visitors' Chidi in the danger zone. Chidi himself converted the spot kick correctly to make it 1-0 in favour of Mahindra.

Two minutes before the half time Vasco had a chance to level the score but Mahindra goalkeeper Subhashish Roy Chowdery smartly saved the attempted shot from close range by Agnelo D' souza.

Inspired by a lead in the first half, Mahindra continued to attack and increased their lead in the 61st minute through Sushil Kumar off a well measured pass received from Edeh Chidi to make it 2-0.

Mahindra's defender Justin Stephan was adjudged the man of the match.
