Kirsten praises 'bowler' Viru

By Staff

New Delhi, Nov 1 (UNI) Praising the bowling of Virender Sehwag, India coach Gary Kirsten today said the opener's emergence as a wicket taking bowler has bolstered the team's arsenal.

Sehwag stepped in after off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was forced to sit out due to injury and was an instant hit, claiming five crucial wickets.

His exploits with the ball made up for his poor form with the bat to some extent and Kirsten admitted that he was impressed with the Delhi lad's efforts.

''I am pleased he got some wickets. He did not do too well with his batting but I am happy with his efforts,'' Kirsten told mediapersons at the end of the fourth day's play.

The former South African opener asserted that Sehwag has established his credentials as an all-rounder and will be used as a bowling option in the future as well.

''Viru has emerged as an all-rounder. He has proved that he has value with the ball as well. He adds more variety to our bowling attack,'' Kirsten quipped.

Kirsten, however, was not too pleased with the performance of the other Indian bowlers and also severely criticised the Indian fielding.
