JCT to face Churchill in I League tie tomorrow

By Staff

Margao, Nov 1 (UNI) Buoyed by their brilliant performance against local Sporting Club De Goa and Vasco Sports Club in the last two outings, Churchill Brothers are looking for yet another win this time against JCT in the ONGC I League Championship match to be played here at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, tomorrow.

Churchill Brothers, who started as hot favourites for the title are placed second with 10 points from four outings, with three wins and a draw, below Sporting Club De Goa, which is the only unbeaten team in the championship so far. They have put in a disciplined performance but cannot afford to be complacent against JCT outfit, which has already earned a high reputation in the football circuit.

JCT too look equally strong and are presently with eight points from two wins, two draws and a defeat and two points behind Churchill Brothers.

Churchill manger Denzil Ferrao said his team was fully fit and confident enough to snatch full points tomorrow with a home support, which will be an added advantage for his team.

He was happy that the team was shaping up well and knew that there is scope to do better than what have been done.

''The team is combining well. The defence is good and disciplined while midfield is moving well. There is lot of mobility upfront spearheaded by prolific Nigerian striker Odafe Okolie, who scored most of the goals in the last matches,'' Ferrao said.

JCT coach Sukhwinder Singh said, ''Baljit who is injured will not be in the team tomorrow. Rest of the team is fully fit and raring to go. Churchill is a good team and has the best forward line and also looks good on paper and performance but we will try to give our best and gain points.'' JCT depends on forwards Eduarido, Julius Akpele, Balwant Singh and Baldeep Singh, to deliver the goods. It will be an interesting match tomorrow, as both the teams need a win to improve their points tally.
