Congress releases first List for MP
New Delhi, Nov 01 (UNI) The Congress has released its first list of 117 candidates for the Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh with many of them being the sitting members of the current legislature.
Party sources said the remaining candidates for the 230-member state assembly will be announced soon.
The party has not only re-nominated a majority of prominent leaders, but also given tickets to a majority of the sitting MLAs.
However, the name of former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, who is also a sitting MLA, did not figure in the list as he had already declared that he would not seek re-election this time.
Mr Singh's seat Raghogarh has been given to his close confidant Mool Singh.
Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly Jamuna Devi will contest from Kukshi-ST.
Union Human Resources Development Minister Arjun Singh's son Ajay Singh will contest from Churhat.
Mr Vikram Singh Natiraja, who had recently joined the Congress from the Samajwadi Party, would seek re-election from Chattarpur constituency, which he now represents in the current assembly.
