New Delhi, Nov 1 (UNI) The International Cricket Council (ICC) today confirmed that it has received official notification from the BCCI of its appeal against the one Test ban on Gautam Gambhir.

Match referee Chris Broad had imposed the ban after Gambhir, who had elbowed Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, was found guilty of conduct contrary to the spirit of cricket.

A Code of Conduct Commissioner to hear the appeal within 48 hours will be apponted by ICC Legal Counsel. Once the Commissioner has been named, details of when and where the appeal hearing will take place, is to be released.

The Commissioner will determine and hear the appeal within seven days of his appointment.

The ICC Executive Board also recently approved an amendment to the Code of Conduct, in terms of which a player who is unsuccessful with his appeal shall have to bear the costs of that appeal.

Meanwhile, according to the Code of Conduct regulations, Gambhir may continue to play pending verdict of the appeal being given.

Yesterday morning, Gambhir had pleaded guilty and was handed with a one Test ban by Emirates Elite Panel ICC Match Referee Chris Broad under Rule C1 of the Code (Level 2) which states that players shall at all times conduct play within the spirit of the game.

The incident took place during the 51st over of India's first innings on day one of the third Test when Gambhir hit Watson while taking a run.
