Warriors hunt down Lions by 8 wickets

By Staff

Gurgaon, Oct 31 (UNI) Shahriar Nafees struck a half-century as Dhaka Warriors thrashed Chandigarh Lions by eight wickets in their Indian Cricket League (ICL) encounter at the Tau Devi Lal stadium here tonight.

Nafees, adjudged the Man of the Match, plundered 73 runs from 60 balls to take the Warriors comfortably past the victory target of 138 runs with two overs to spare. He was ably supported by a quickfire innings of 32 runs from just 17 balls by Alok Kapali. The duo came together when Aftab Ahmed was dismissed by Bipul Sharma and tormented the Chandigarh bowlers, hitting them to all corners of the ground.

The Chandigarh bowlers were largely ineffective with only Bipul Sharma troubling the Dhaka batsmen. Sharma claimed two wickets, giving away just 17 runs in his three overs.

Earlier, put into bat by their rivals, the Lions got off to a dismal start, losing three wickets in the space of four runs and were reeling at 3/29 after four overs. Bipul Sharma (30), Andrew Hall (29) and Chetan Sharma (27) offered some ressistance to the Dhaka bowlers. But the rest of their team mates failed to make much headway as Chandigarh lost wickets at regular intervals.

Dhaka Warriors are now fourth on the table with six points from the same number of matches.
