Chandigarh, Oct 31 (UNI) Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has introduced energy conservation awards to encourage installation of energy saving devices in large and small scale industry, government and commercial buildings, educational institutions, in the agriculture sector, on poultry farms and in the domestic sector.
Science and Technology and Non-Conventional Energy Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said here today that these awards had been instituted to encourage people to conserve energy keeping in view the global power scarcity. The Minister said that investment grade energy audit of 10 government buildings has been started and the recommendations by the consultant to bring energy efficiency in these buildings will be implemented by the concerned departments.
Mr Majithia said that the Punjab Government has decided to introduce energy efficient Municipal street lighting system at Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Bathinda and initiate energy efficiency in District Administration complexes at Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, Sangrur and Mini Secretariat, Chandigarh.
PEDA has made detailed reports for these projects and tender will be floated by local government department and PWD (B&R).
Giving the details of this award scheme, Mr T P S Sidhu, Chief Executive, PEDA, said that the details for participation in the Energy Conservation Award Programme for different sectors would be available on the website of Punjab Government or PEDA.
This scheme has been formulated in line with the guidelines of Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Union Ministry of Power and the entries in the prescribed format will be invited by PEDA through press advertisement in the newspapers.
He said that in each category three awards which would include cash, a memento and a certificate will be given to the winners.
