NGO urges reimbursement of books, uniform money to EWS students
New Delhi, Oct 31 (UNI) Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Social Jurist has urged the Delhi High Court to direct the Delhi government to reimburse more than Rs 30 lakh to the students of the economoically weaker section (EWS) towards the cost of books and uniforms.
As per Delhi Government rules framed in 2006, the private schools would reserve 15 per cent seats for students who are economically weak and the government would reimburse the cost of books and uniforms to them.
The cost to be paid to students has been fixed at Rs 1000 per child per year.
According to Mr Ashok Aggarwal of Social Jurist, about 30,000 students of the EWS are waiting to get their reimbursement.
The academic year is reaching its end but no payment has been made so far.
The petition filed today would come up for hearing next week.
