Kohima, Oct 31 (UNI) Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphu Rio today condemned the serial blasts in different parts of Assam and dubbed it ''cowardly acts of mindless terrorism perpetrated on innocent civilians.'' In a statement issued here, Mr Rio said this act of terror deserved the highest level of condemnation from all right thinking citizens and the mindless violence and killing of innocents should find no place in any civilised society.
The perpetrators of such mindless violence should be hunted down and brought to justice to install confidence in the minds of the people, he said.
Mr Rio also convened a high-level emergency meeting, along with his Cabinet colleagues, senior bureaucrats, including the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) to review the security scenario of Nagaland in the aftermath of the serial bomb blasts in neighbouring Assam.
The meeting observed that the increasing incidence of serial blasts in the North Eastern region, which was earlier free from such attacks, should be a cause of concern for the Centre.
An effective mechanism must be urgently put in place in order to combat terrorism and those who are using unacceptable weapons of fear and panic against common people.
The country cannot afford to allow these anti-national elements to function at will and the need of the hour is for all sections of the society to work in close coordination and in a united manner to combat the menace of terrorism, the meeting observed.
The meeting also expressed condolence to the bereaved families and prayed for early recovery of the injured.
