Jeypore, Oct 31 (UNI) A Maoist leader from Malkangiri Dalam was arrested here today prior to visit of Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to this town.
Acting on a tip off, Koraput police led by superintendent Sanjaya Kumar arrested the Maoist few hours before the arrival of the chief minister, who is scheduled to address a Biju Janata Dal convention.
Soon after the arrest, the police whisked away the Maoist to neighbouring Malkangiri district for interrogation to ascertain the motive behind his visit to the town.
Sources said the Maoists of southern Orissa have suddenly become hyper active and started reorganising after the arrest of a top cadre who masterminded in recent Almpoka ambush in which some 36 Greyhound policemen from Andhra Pradesh were killed.
Meanwhile, Sunabeda DIG S Panda reviewed the security arrangements with the superintendents of Korpaut, Malkangiri and Rayagada districts as red alert was on force in all Maoist dominated pockets in the wake of fresh threats from the outfit.
