Govts harassing tribes to shift from forest: Tribal movement Chief
Madikeri, Oct 31 (UNI) National Tribal Movement Chief and Supreme Court advocate Pradeep Prabhu today alleged that state governments and environmentalists were harassing the tribal communities to shift their habitat.
Speaking at 'Tribal Convention-2008' organized by the Kodagu Tribal Association at Kushalnagar, he said on the pretext of converting the forest areas into National Parks across the country, the state governments had already rendered 30,000 tribes to lose their identity.
Time had come for the tribes to fight unitedly to safeguard their habitats, he added.
The tribes, who were the original inhabitants of forest area since more than 150 years, were now being pressurised by the government machinery to vacate their dwelling places, he alleged.
