Classical status puts Kannada on high pedestal: CM
Bangalore, Oct 31 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today said the Centre according classical status to Kannada has ''placed the language on a high pedestal.'' Thanking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on behalf of the people of Karnataka here he said the 53nd ''Rajyotsava,'' the state formation day tomorrow would be celebrated as 'Vijayotsava' following Kannada language getting the classical status after many years of lobbying.
KPCC President R V Deshpande said Kannada was a rich language and its antiquity dates back to more than 2000 years.
Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Mallikarjun Kharge also thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for extending classical status to Kannada.
