Arunachal: BRO to restore flood damage roads

Itanagar, Oct 31: The Border Roads Organization(BRO) has pressed around 500 men into service to restore road link to Tawang and West Kameng districts in Arunachal Pradesh.

It was de-linked on Tuesday following massive flood triggered by incessant rainfall.

Cyclonic storm Rashmi, triggered torrential rain for three days which caused massive devastation in West Kameng, particularly in Rupa, where 150 meter road near Chuk bridge and 250 meter near Birpur and two bridges washed away damaging buildings. Eight people were killed in the incident.

According to BRO sources, the organization would air-lift heavy equipments like bulldozers and earth removers from Aalo soon to restore communication by November 15.

The PWD has pressed its men and cleared the minor blocks,reopening the road up to Tenga, West Kameng Superintendent of police Paldan said.

About 300 tourists mainly from Maharashtra and West Bengal and a few foreigners were stranded at Bomdila and Tawang. They were being airlifted with the help of helicopters and the evacuation will be over in two days, informed Tawang deputy commissioner T T Gamdik.
