By Staff

Mumbai, Oct 31 (UNI) Third seed Aryan Goveas defeated Number two Rian Pandole 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1) to clinch the boys under-10 title, in the Vazirani All India Talent Series Tennis Championship, here today.

After Pandole kept his hopes alive by snatching the second set, Goveas recovered from a 2-5 deficit in the third and deciding set to seal a memorable victory via the tie-breaker in the closest contest of the day.

Pandole broke Goveas at 15 in the crucial sixth game for a 4-2 lead and held serve in the next game to set himself up for the first of two titles. Pandole then reached the match point in the eighth game on Goveas' serve, but he squandered the golden opportunity as the latter held serve.

An inspired Goveas broke Pandole at 15 in the ninth game to close in at 4-5 and held serve to draw level 5-5. From a position of despair, Goveas broke Pandole in a dramatic 11th game after trailing 0-30 and 30-40 as Pandole hit wide after the first deuce.

But Pandole remained in the fray by breaking back for 6-6, as he fired two brilliant double backhand down-the-line winners to force the tie-breaker.

A confident Goveas though raced to a substantial 5-1 lead in the tie-breaker before taking the match away.

Boys under-12 sixth seed Karan Mehta denied Pandole his second title of the day following a hard-fought 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 triumph in a keen final.

Top seeds Jinisha Patel and Ria Vardhan claimed the girls under-12 and under-10 titles, while No 1 seeds Poojan Desai and Sanjeevani Patil bagged the boys and girls under-8 titles, respectively.
