52 people file nominations for three Poonch seats

Jammu, Oct 31 (UNI) At least 52 people, including two women, have filed nomination papers for three assembly constituencies of the bordering Poonch district which are going to the polls in the Phase-I on November 17, official sources today said.

At the end of the last day for filing the nomination papers today, 16 candidates had applied for Poonch-Haveli assembly constituency, 21 for Mendhar Assembly constituency and 15 for Surankote Assembly constituency, sources said.

First time in the history, two women Ms Tabasum Choudhary of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party and Ms Sarita Sharma of Bhartiya Chaetna Party -- will be contesting from bordering district constituency of Poonch-Haveli.

However, main contest for assembly seats going for polls in the Phase-I is expected to be between Congress and National Conference candidates.

The nominations will be scrutinised tomorrow, while November 3 will be the last date for withdrawal of the names.

Total ten assembly constituencies are going for elections in Phase-I, which include seven seats of Gurez, Bandipora, Sonawari (of Bandipora district in Kashmir valley), Nobra and Leh (in district Leh) and Kargil and Zanskar (district Kargil in Ladakh area).
