New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has demanded that the Bharatiya Janata Party spare at least three seats for its candidates in the November 29 polls to the Delhi legislative Assembly.
Even as BJP's final list of candidates for the state Assembly polls is likely to be announced anytime after October 31, the SAD (Badal) Delhi President Manjeet Singh GK said his party has demanded that candidates of the Akali Dal be fielded from those seats where Sikhs are in a majority.
''We have demanded the BJP to spare at least three seats in the Delhi Legislative Assembly - Moti Nagar, Tilak Nagar and Shakur Basti - for the Shiromani Akali Dal(Badal) as we feel that a candidate of the Akali Dal will be in a better position to win from these seats,''Mr Singh told UNI here.
He said his party had put forward its demand to the BJP High command - former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, party president Rajnath Singh and party's chief ministerrial candidate for Delhi V K Malhotra.
''The BJP high command has assured us of a serious consideration of our demand by the party state unit. We are hopeful of a favourable decision in this regard by the BJP,''Mr Singh said.
Earlier, this week, the All India Sikh Riots Victims Action Committee appealed to the BJP to spare Tilak Nagar Assembly seat for Shiromani Akali Dal candidate.
''Such dispensation of the BJP is imperative for emancipation and rehabilitation of riot victims who have been denied overall justice all these years,'' committee president Jagdish Singh, chairman Mohan Singh and convener Hari Singh said.
Mr Jagdish Singh, Mr Hari Singh and Mr Mohan Singh made a fervent appeal to Mr Advani, Mr Rajnath Singh, Mr Malhotra and Delhi BJP chief Harshvardhan to field an Akali Dal candidate from the Tilak Nagar Assembly seat, where thousands of riot victims live in a miserable condition and nothing has been done to redress their grievances.
