Chandigarh, Oct 30 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator, General (Retd.) S F Rodrigues inaugurated the Beant Singh Memorial and the Chandigarh Center for performing and visual arts here.
While interacting with Mrs Jaswant Kaur, wife of Late Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, and Senior officers of the Punjab Government and the Chandigarh Administration yesterday, General Rodrigues emphasized the need of making the memorial a vibrant and broad-based project to fulfill the ideals and the cause for which Mr Beant Singh laid down his life.
He said that this project must be developed further in an integrated and harmonious manner and optimally utilized with participation of people to realize the objectives.
He asked the members of Beant Singh family to actively involve themselves in its growth and development by making a core group to coordinate with the executing agencies of Punjab Government and Chandigarh Administration.
General Rodrigues went around the library building, an open air auditorium, a lecture hall, a conference hall, a committee room, a reading room and the fountains installed in the complex and asked the Chandigarh Home Secretary to landscape the surroundings to attract tourists and other visitors.
He paid floral tributes to the former Chief Minister at the site.
