Red alert in Bengal following Assam blasts
Kolkata, Oct 30 (UNI) The West Bengal government sounded a red alert across the state in view of the serial blasts in Assam that claimed 63 lives today.
Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee reviwed the overall security arrangement and law and order situation with Home Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty and senior police and civil officials in the Writers' Buildings during the day.
Mr Chakraborty later told mediapersons that security had been tightened throughout the state, with special emphasis on border areas.
Mr Chakraborty informed that all the superintendents of police and the district magistrates had been asked to keep a strict vigil.
They had also been directed to deploy additional police personnel in their respective areas, if needed.
Referring to the security arrangement in the city, he said all the police stations had been cautioned and people warned not to touch any suspicious articles.
Security was also beefed up at all the market places, shopping malls, areas adjoining the airport and railway stations, Metro, the city's underground rail system and other important installations in the city.
