Chennai, Oct 30 (UNI) Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa gave some anxious moments when she slipped while boarding a seven-seater special aircraft to Madurai en route Pasumpon to participate in the Muthuramalinga Thevar Jayanthi Celebrations.
Apparently, considering the slip as a bad omen, Ms Jayalalithaa, a strong believer in astrology, returned to her Poes Garden Residence without boarding the flight.
However, she left for Madurai later in the afternoon in the same special flight.
Airport sources said Ms Jayalalithaa, who reached the airport at 1055 hrs, was about to board the aircraft, which came from Mumbai, when she slipped while climbing the second step of the three-step ladder that leads to the seven-seater aircraft.
However, she managed to regain balance herself. She gave anxious moments to her Personal Security Officer, accompanying her, as she stood on the ladder for four to five minutes before deciding to get down and return home.
The AIADMK leader, who was visibly angry and upset, signalled her personal assistant to bring the car back. After asking her close friend Sasikala and others to get into the car, she returned to her Poes Garden residence.
Later, around 1340 hrs, she came back to the aircraft to board the same flight.
This time, the authorities replaced the three-step ladder with a with five-step ladder, making it more convenient.
Ms Jayalalithaa, accompanied by Ms Sasikala would fly to Madurai and reach Pasumpon in Ramanathapuram District by helicopter to take part in the ''Thevar Jayanthi'', marking the 101st birth anniversary of Thevar Leader and Freedom Fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar and pay her obeisance.
Ms Jayalalithaa's Personal Security Officer, Personal Assistant and a servant maid were others who travelled with her in the aircraft.
