Jaya had a miraculous escape

Ramanathapuram, Oct 30 (UNI) Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa had a miraculous escape, when unidentified miscreants pelted stones at her car at the Pasumpon village, near here, today.

Following the violent incidents, the police burst four teargas shells to disperse the miscreants.

Ms Jayalalithaa, who was accompanied by her close aide Ms Sasikala, reached Pasumpon from Madurai by a helicopter and arrived at the memorial of Thevar at Pasumpon village by a car.

When her car entered the memorial from north side gate, unidentified miscreants from the huge crowd pelted stones. Before the stones could hit her, Jayalalithaa escorted by her bodyguards went inside the memorial.

However, the windowpanes of the car were shattered in the attack.

Minutes after the first attack, Jayalalithaa was attacked for the second time at the south side gate by the miscreants, while she was about to board the car after paying homage at the memorial.

Police used mild force to control the surging crowd after the second attack.

The mob suddenly retaliated by pelting stones and attacked the police personnel with sticks. In the melee, two sub-inspectors of police, two police constables and a woman suffered bleeding injuries on their heads.

Several policemen and public were injured in the violence.

Additional policemen rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
