IGI Airport's new runway 11-29 becomes operational
New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) The recently inaugurated third runway 11-29 at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi had become operational today for round-the-clock operations.
Delhi International Airport (P) Limited (DIAL), the joint venture consortium operating and developing the IGI Airport, had inaugurated the runway for commercial operations on September 25.
The operational hours of the new runway were increased in a phased manner in accordance with global aviation best practices. Following the encouraging feedback from all stakeholders such as Airlines and ATC on successful operations since its opening, the runway will now be available for operations round-the-clock. This development further enhances IGI Airport's capacity to handle aircraft movements.
The maintenance of the main runways (11-29 and 10-28) will be carried out on lternate days on the weekdays whereas secondary runway (09-27) maintenance will be carried out on Sunday between 1300 hrs to 1600 hrs.
Completed more than six months ahead of the scheduled time of February 2009, the runway is built according to 'Code F' standards, making it capable of handling new generation large aircraft such as the Airbus A380.
