Kapurthala, Oct 30 (UNI) The district police today busted an interdistrict gang of highway robbers involved in forty incidents of snatchings and robberies.
Five members of this gang were arrested and three stolen motorcycles, seven mobiles, one country made pistol and one sword besides three purses and two wrist watches were recovered from their possession.
Addressing a press conference here today, SSP Rakesh Aggarwal identified the accused as Gurpreet Singh alias Kali resident of Singhpur Dona near Nakodar, Mandeep Mohammad and Sunny, both residents of village Kular under police station Nakodar, Vijay Khan resident of village Sathiala under police station Beas and Sukhwinder Singh of village Sahim under police station Nakodar.
The SSP said all the accused are illiterate and drug addicts and used to way laid the passer-bye on two motorcycles on Kapurthala-Jalandhar and Kapurthala-Kala Singia road and snatch their vehicles and mobiles and other valuable articles. They confessed to have committed more than forty snatching incidents in Kapurthala and Jalandhar districts.
He said accused Gurpreet Singh alias Kali was the gang leader and accused Mandeep Mohammad worked as a security guard in a private firm.
