Kakinada, Oct 30 (UNI) An aged couple was allegedly murdered and valuables, including cash and jewellery, were stolen by the assailants from their house in Thetagunta village in Tuni rural mandal, 65 km from here, in the early hours of today.
Subdivisional Police Officer S Surya Rao, who rushed to the spot told UNI that Retired Superintending Engineer of National Highways Kanumuri Krishnamraju (64) was strangled to death while his wife Sarojini (59) died of asphyxiation as the assailants pressed pillow on her face.
The body of Krishnamraju was found on a chair while his wife's body was found on the bed, he said adding that the assailants might have gained entry into the house while they were watching television and committed the act.
The exact details of the property stolen could be ascertained only on the arrival of the kin of the deceased, he said and added that sniffer dogs and finger print experts were pressd into service.
