By Staff

New Delhi, Oct 29 (UNI) National amateur champion Rahul Bakshi played a steady round of one over par 73 to end the first round tied for fifth place, six shots behind the leader Andrew Wallace in the Faldo Series Grand Finals, being played at the Costa Do Sauipe Golf Resort in Brazil.

According to the information received here, other Indian Rashid Khan failed to deliver and finished his round with a total of seven over par 79.

Rashid had as many as three double bogeys in his round and could not recover to finish the round fourth in his age group.

Rahul had a bad start to his round and was five over after the first eight holes but he clawed his way back into the competition and with the help of four birdies finished with a respectable score of one over par 73.

Andrew Wallace from Scotland started in style with a birdie on the first and then added five more birdies, including one on 18.

With only one bogey on his card, the 19 year-old finished five shots clear of three English players on level-par 72: Andrew Palmer and Steven Brown (joint second behind Wallace in the Under 21 category) and Alasdair Dalgliesh (Boys U-18 leader).

Scores: Andrew Wallace (67); Andrew Palmer, Steven Brown, Alasdair Dalgliesh (72); Rahul Bakshi (73); Rashid Khan (79).
