Chandigarh, Oct 29 (UNI) India were leading Pakistan by 4-2 at the end of first day's play in the third India-Pakistan Inter-Punjab Golf Championship for the Punj-Aab Cup Golf Championship at the 72-par Chandigarh Golf Club course here today.
Today's play was partners playing alternate shots with the winning team in each four-ball getting one point for their team.
Local rookies Raghav Bhandari and Angad Cheema had all but given up hope on the 15th tee when they were three holes down. They however went on to win the 15th and 16th with a pars and halved the 17th.
The 18th tee saw them still trailing by one hole down. A brilliant chip in by Angad Cheema from over the green saw them finish the match tied and earn India half point.
H S Kang and Aman Guron earned the first victory points for India when they finished off the opposition on the 12th hole, winning 8-6.
In the 40-50 years category the Indian duo of J S Bakshi and Suman Puri made full use of their combined experience and won on the 18th hole with a two up score. Their opposition of Sardar Murad and Mohsin Anwar gave them tough competition till the 16th hole as the score on the 17th tee was all square.
Pakistan's other pairing in this category, Murad Khan and Saleem Raza played a flawless game to beat the Indian pairing of Sandeep Sandhu and R S Sandhu by a wide margin of 6/5.
The above 50 category saw a pitched battle between Indian pair of Brig G J Singh and Col Iqbal Singh and the Pakistan duo of Col Jameel and Alam Sethi, which ultimately ended in a draw, thus giving each team half a point.
The final pairing of Col A D Singh and I P S Mann of India and Shafique Bhatti and Dr Zahid of Pakistan saw a very one-sided affair as the Indians turned on the back nine with a score of 6 up.
