Kolkata, Oct 29 (UNI) Accusing the state government of failing to control Dengue and other diseases in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today demanded that an announcement of epidemic should be made on the part of the government.

Talking to mediapersons, she said the World Health Organisation (WHO) had warned about outbreak of such diseases, but the state government had failed to take any proactive measure.

Ms Banerjee claimed that the toll in the diseases was much higher than the government figure, which was ''manipulated'' by the official.

'' At least 300 to 400 people died of Dengue, Chikungunya and other diseases in different districts of the state, but the government statement is mentioning about only 3 to 4 deaths, '' she remarked.

Referring to Tata Motors' exit from Singur apprehending ''violence,'' she said if at all such a threat was in Singur, it should have been diminished by the state government itself like its counterparts in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Orissa.

Focusing on the proposed resistance of the Nano Bachao Committee regarding her party's agitation in Singur on November 2, Ms Banerjee maintained that the Trinamool was ready to face ''all odds''.

She also alleged that the CPI(M) was creating terror at Salbani before the proposed inauguration of the steel plant of Jindals.

Ms Banerjee also took strong exception to the attack on Opposition leader Partha Chatterjee, allegedly by CPI(M) supporters, and threatened that her party was able to ''resist and counter'' any such onslaught.
