Chennai, Oct 29 (UNI) Contributions for the ''Sri Lankan Tamils Relief Fund,'' launched by the Tamil Nadu government, were pouring in, as the total contributions reached Rs 88.86 lakh till this noon.
After Chief Miniter M Karunanidhi launched the collection yesterday, with his personal contribution of Rs 10 lakh, Industrialist M A M Ramasamy and Mr E V Kumaran, on behalf of the Arunai Engineering College contributed Rs 10 lakh each today.
On behalf of Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science and Technology, Periyar Trust, Periyar Public Press Trust and on his own behalf, Dravida Kazhagam President K Veeramani contributed Rs 9.5 lakh to the fund.
Former DMK MLA and actor-Industrialist Nepoleon, Hotel Sarvana Bhavan and Employees of Hotel Sarvana Bhavan contributed Rs Five lakh each, an official release here said.
Actor Vivek and Secretariat staff association contributed Rs One lakh each, while Actor Kushboo, Director Sunder and Journalist Malini Parthasarathy contributed Rs 10,000 each, the release said.
Lyricist Vali, Deputy Speaker V P Duraisamy, Bishop Ezra Sargunam, were among others, who made their contributions for the fund.
On the opening day yesterday, a sum of Rs 33.07 lakh was collected. Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan contributed Rs two lakh.
