'Vishwashanti Yagnya' sparks of tension in Kolhapur
Kolhapur, Oct 28 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh-based ''Ma Vardainee'' Yagnya Samiti's proposed week-long''Vishwashanti Yagnya'' at Gandhi Maidan in the city from November 1, today sparked off tension in the area.
Activists of CPI, CPI-M, PWP, NCP and some social organisations staged a ''Chipko agitation'' against the Yagnya, while activists of BJP, Shiv Sena and some others organisations reached the site to prevent the agitation.
In order to maintain law and order in the city, police detained activists of both the sides, police sources said.
The activists against the yagnya are of the opinion that it should not be organised in a open public place and have called for Kolhapur ''bandh'' on October 31.
When some mediapersons questioned State deputy Chief Minister R R Patil over the issue, during his visit to the city yesterday, he said that it was a local issue, which should be solved at local level.
