Ronaldo named FifPro World Footballer of the Year

By Staff

London, Oct 28 : Manchester winger Cristiano Ronaldo has been named FifPro World Footballer of the Year.

The Portugal international, who is also the favourite to be named European and FIFA World Player of the Year, has been chosen for the award by thousands of professional footballers across more than 40 associations.

Ronaldo, who is also expected to scoop the Balon D'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year award, admits he is keen to remain at Old Trafford, The Sun reported.

"I insist that I am a Manchester United player and now I think that next year I will continue here," he said.

Ronaldo was on the verge of joining Real Madrid in the summer and at times his body language has suggested he would prefer to be in Spain. But the winger insists United boss Alex Ferguson is the main reason why he still pulls on a red shirt.

"He has been a key person. I respect him a lot because it was him who signed me and he has played a very important part in all that I have won. In Lisbon I reached an agreement with him and it was decided that the best thing for all was to continue," Ronaldo said.

"He listened to my arguments and I listened to his. Now I understand that it was the correct decision. I am with Manchester United body and soul," he added.
