Diwali celebrated with fervour in Chitrakoot
Chitrakoot, Oct 28 (UNI) As many as 20 lakh devotees today took a holy dip in river Mandakini and observed the festival of lights, Deepawali in high religious spirits here today.
District Magistrate Piyush Goel said a large number of worshippers took the holy dip and performed 'parikrama' at Kamadgiri, besides the renowned 'deep daan'.
The city holds great importance on the day as God Rama, Laxman and Sita had spent a long time out of their 14 years in exile here.
As per a belief, the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled as the God resides in Chitrakoot on the day.
Meanwhile, as per reports, several people sustained injuries in separate incidents in the city due to huge rush.
At least 10 women and 12 men received injuries at Ramghat and Raghav Prayag ghat after they were pushed by the huge crowd.
Several devouts received injuries in road accidents, while some other became target of pick-pocketting in the rush here.
