Brand Dhoni sold like hotcake in Ranchi markets on Diwali eve

Ranchi, Oct.28 : As Mahender Singh Dhoni-led Indian cricket team continues to cherish an unprecedented popularity around the world, local traders selling firecrackers and sweets in Ranchi found him the best brand to cash in the Diwali spirit.

Master blaster Dhoni turned a big celebrity in his hometown Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, since becoming the skipper of Indian cricket team. Almost every other youngster here today looks him upon as style icon and a role model.

With prices of fireworks crackers going sky-high, the brand Dhoni was selling like hot cake. Indeed, it was a bonanza for the sweetmeat sellers too.

Many shopkeepers enjoyed fascinating customers with sweets shaped like cricket bats, balls and wicketkeeper's gloves.

"We are extremely overwhelmed with the sale of these Dhoni crackers. Everyone wants to buy Dhoni brand crackers only," said Rajendra Prasad, a firework shopkeeper.

"Dhoni is from our city. He is a talented cricketer. Everyone in our State loves cricket. Thus, Dhoni sweets are in great demand," said Nagesh, a sweetmeat shopkeeper. By Girija Shankar OjhaANI)
