Tribals celebrate Gai Gauhari Parv during Diwali

Jhabua, MP, Oct 27 (UNI) Tribals celebrate 'Gai Gauhari Parv' on the next day of Diwali to pay respect to their bovine cattle in Jhabua and Dhar district in western Madhya Pradesh.

According to the experts of culture and traditions prevalent in these tribal-dominated districts, Deepavali festival is celebrated by tribals for five days starting from 'Dhan Teras' to 'Bhai Duj' with various rituals being performed during the period.

Tribals lie on the ground while worshipping cows so that the cattle could place their hooves on them which is regarded as an auspicious sign.

Colours, peacock feathers, bells and other materials used for adorning cattle sell like hot cakes during Deepavali and tribals make best use of them to decorate the cattle.

On the next day of Deepavali, apart from worship of decorated cattle, 'Gowardhan Pooja' is performed. The scene of worship at Gowardhannath temple in Jhabua is worth watching.

Recitation of 'Gai Gauhari' starts at this juncture and cattle run amidst sound of drums while tribals lie flat on the ground.

The district administration has banned the use of crackers to make cattle run since the past three years in view of accidents.
