Agartala, Oct 27 (UNI) The indefinite students' strike at the College of Fisheries at Lambucherra entered the fourth day today with the participants refusing to attend classes.
The students had called the stir demanding removal of Assistant Professor of the College Dr Subhashish Bagchi and formation of a students' council.
In a memorandum addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of Central Agricultural College in Imphal on October 24, the students mentioned that they were assured that Dr Bagchi would be transferred permanently but it was not done.
As per the assurance given by the college authority, it was also promised that a Students' Council would be formed to discuss various issues with the college authority.
''Unfortunately, instead of forming the council, the college authority has formed a body combination of students and professors.
We want the Students Council to raise their voice from time to time,'' they said in a memorandum.
''We have full confidence in you and hope that you will be able to fulfil our demands immediately. If our demands are not met within the next 24 hours, the students will intensify the stir,'' they said.
The students alleged that Dr Bagchi was not helpful to the students and they faced hardships due to his presence in the institution.
The students had boycotted classes for more than ten days recently in protest against the 'illegal' transfer of Prof. M C Nandeesha. In the face of intensive stir, the college authority had to accept the students' demands that included reinstatement of Prof Nandeesha.
