London, Oct 27 : Fifty percent of teachers in UK think that there's a decline in pupil behaviour in schools over the past five years, reveals a Government survey.

The Teacher Voice survey found that 54 percent of secondary teachers claimed that pupil behaviour had worsened, as compared to 48 per cent of teachers overall.

On the other hand, 70 per cent claimed behaviour in their school was either good or very good.

And only seven percent of the 1,479 teachers surveyed rated pupil behaviour as being poor or very poor.

Over 80 percent teachers said that they were well equipped to manage any bad behaviour.

Bit more than one third objected the claim that appropriate training was available in their school for teachers who were struggling with pupil behaviour.

More than 65 per cent insisted that bad behaviour was prompting many teachers to leave their jobs.

The researchers said that they were confident that the poll was representative of the views of teachers nationally.

A spokesman for the Department for Children, Schools and Families said the findings displayed the "perception gap" between teachers' positive views of standards in their schools and a more negative view of the situation overall.
