Hyderabad, Oct 27 (UNI) General Officer Commanding 54 Infantry Division Major General Rajesh Singh today said efforts were being made to modernise the Infantry while its men in difficult terrains would be equipped with latest armaments.
Addressing a gathering at a solemn ceremony organised in commemoration of the 'Infantry Day' in Mehdipatnam Cantonment here, he commended the Infantrymen for their hard work, bravery and devotion to duty, saying their services abroad with Peace Keeping Missions have been equally appreciated.
People have also appreciated their services to civil administration during natural calamities, he said.
A special Sainik Sammelan was another highlight of the day-long programme of celebrations organised centrally. All Infantrymen in Station graced the occasion.
Every year, October 27 is celebrated as Infantry Day. On this day 61 years ago, the first elements of the Indian Infantry landed in Srinagar and resolutely defended Kashmir from falling into enemy hands by pushing back Pakistani raiders, who had already advanced to take control of Srinagar.
