Assam Sahitya Sabha chief charged with contempt of court
Guwahati, Oct 27 (UNI) Assam Sahitya Sabha president Kanaksen Deka and two others were today charged with 'contempt of court' by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup, though they were immediately released on bail.
The trio was summoned by the court in a case related to the alleged publication of a compilation of the Sahiyta Sabha's presidents' speeches with credit to persons who were actually not related with the project.
Former general secretary of the Sabha Jagdish Patgiri had moved the court against the publication of the book under wrong credits, claiming that he had compiled and edited the entire book but it was published with different credits following his unceremonious exit from the apex literary body.
The court, at a previous hearing, had ordered a stop at the sale of the book until further orders, but Mr Patgiri again moved the court claiming that the book had been put up for sale.
The CJM court, after hearing the arguments of both sides, charged Mr Deka, Satish Choudhry and Dr Pradeep Bhuyan under whose credit the book was published, with contempt of court.
The trio was released on bail after furnishing individual bonds of Rs 10,000 each.
