Army Commander urges infantry to continue their proud record

Imphal, Oct 27 (UNI) Lt Gen Rakesh Kumar Loomba, GOC 3 Corps today exhorted the Infantrymen to maintain their excellence, pride and professionalism in every venture they embark upon.

Speaking here on the 61st Infantry Day he extended his good wishes to all the infantrymen and their families including the ex-servicemen of the North-East.

Maj Gen Shakti Gurung, GOC Red Shield Division also felicitated the infantrymen and their families on the occasion.

The celebration of the day dates back to October 27,1947. It was on this historic day that the first contingent of Infantry air landed at Srinagar airfield and doggedly defended it from invaders from Pakistan.

Our fearless Infantrymen fought gallantly to ensure that Kashmir remains an integral part of India, Col Rajesh Mishra, PRO of PIB (Defence Wing) said.

To commemorate the gallantry of Infantry and to pay homage to all the martyrs who laid down their lives to safeguard the integrity of our Nation, October 27 is celebrated as Infantry Day.

Gen Loomba further added, he is certain that all Infantrymen, whether serving or ex-servicemen, would continue to excel in all spheres and perform their duties with elan, fortitude, dedication, pride and professionalism, wherever they were.
