APUWJ urges Naidu to take action on partymen for media attack
Hyderabad, Oct 27 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and the Andhra Pradesh Electronic Media Cameramen Association today urged the Telugu Desam Party(TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu to take stringent action against the youth-wing workers of the party for their attack on journalists on the outskirts of Guntur, yesterday.
The General Secretary of the APUWJ Y Narender Reddy, President of the AP Electronic Media Journalists Association, C Hariprasad, President of the Electronic Media Camermen Association, C Krishna Rao, were among others, who met Mr Naidu and submitted a memorandum on the issue.
They alleged that the TDP workers attacked the electronic media journalists when they were taking pictures of clashes between the two factions of the party at the venue after the TDP leader Yanamala Ramakrishnudu left the place after inspecting the arrangements.
They further alleged that after fighting among themselves for some time, a section of the workers turned on the journalists and beat them mercilessely with logs and unleashed heaps of abuses against the media. Three TV cameramen were injured and taken to local hospital in Guntur, where condition of one of them was stated to be serious.
In a democracy, Media was expected to be the mirror of happenings.
Politicians should not be allowed to beat up journalists when the ugly incidents at their functions were reported or pictures taken while lauding when things are reported in their favour, they alleged.
Mr Naidu should take stern action against Kolli Lakshmaiah Choudhary and other wrong-doers in TDP and should ensure that such incidents did not recur in future, the memorandum added.
