Allahabad, October 26 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Rita Bahuguna Joshi today alleged that the state government has a connection with criminals, that is why no action is being taken against them.
After the police firing in Kowrao, Ms Joshi alleged that the police was working under the pressure of the BSP government.
She said according to police the murder of Vyankatesh Tripathi was the result of land dispute, adding this was not true and his murder should be investigated properly.
''He belonged to a poor family and the police was not in a mood to give attention to the case, as the alleged culprit in this murder was kept in the police station for whole of the night as a guest'', she told UNI.
Ms Joshi said the people were protesting, with only two demands-- security for the victim's family and financial help to them, as they were very poor. But the district administration was working under the pressure of the state government and was not ready to do any justice.
''This incident has unveiled the state government's reality, as to what it thinks about the poor. Three members of a family have been murdered last year and still they were not getting any security from the police. But the police were showing bravery by firing in the air, in which three persons were injured. Two, with very serious injuries. A total of 13 to 14 rounds of firing took place'' she said adding that if she would not have reached the spot in time, anything could have happened.
She said the SSP have assured that sufficient steps have been taken, but that was yet to be seen.
Congress leader Venkatesh Tripathi was shot dead yesterday under Kowrao police station in the district.
