Jammu, Oct 26 (UNI) The convenor of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS) Leela Karan Sharma has been allegedly threatened by banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), which has been linked to Indian Mujahideen.

The threat has been received through a letter, written in Hindi and signed by the activists of SIMI from Meerut unit.

The letter, however, was received by Mr Sharma by post while a copy of letter was immediately handed over to the Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone K Rajendera.

Meanwhile, the letter is being examined by the police to ascertain the place from where it has been posted.

''Following the threatening letter, the security of the convenor has been strengthened while two Private Security Officers (PSOs) have also been provided to him,'' sources said.

SAYSS was conglomerate of around 45 social, political and religious organisations that spearheaded the two-month long agitation demanding restoration of 800 kanals of land back to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.

However, the land was ''exclusively'' set aside for the use of Shrine Board after an agreement signed between the government representatives and the Sangharsh Samiti on August 31.
